On 26 July, in honor of Saint Anne, we celebrate the feast of the triumph of peace. Renaissance Festival is revived in modern edition, and remembers the end of a long period of struggle between the factions that had formed inside the city.

We are ready for the second leg of the route that leads us to resume the road to overcome, and then in a southerly direction to head to the river Vomano Atri, once Hatria Picena. During the Roman period the city became an important town, later in the medieval period, after the Frankish rule, it becomes a free city, but it became a possession of the Acquaviva family. Those who visit for the first time discovers the strange and unusual landscape of the badlands that are encountered along the road just before arriving. Atri is probably the oldest city in the region, certainly, the artistic heritage is unbeatable. The Cathedral, built in the thirteenth century when it became the seat of Bishops, is one of the most impressive churches D'Abruzzo. The majestic building has a beautiful portal decorated with a rose halo meticulously carved by master Rainald. On the right side are three more rich portals that are opening more entrances to the Cathedral, while on the left stands a beautiful and powerful that ends with a bell tower with spire. In its three naves the wonders continue with the wonderful frescoes by Andrea De Litio Abruzzo, covering the walls and the vault of the scenes from the life of Jesus, the Virgin and the saints. Then we access the adjacent Cathedral Museum to admire the many precious antiquities preserved here: paintings, illuminated manuscripts, carved woodwork, jewelry and sacred objects. Against the Cathedral, we have the beautiful Church of Santa Reparata in addition to the furnishings inside which we discover the baroque statue of the saint. We continue our tour by looking the other ancient Churches of Atri and rich: is that of St. Augustine, dating from the fourteenth century and with a fine relief of God the Father, so the Church of St. Andrew with a fine portal work too ' it's Rainald of Atri, the Church of San Domenico, built in 1322 and then rebuilt in later centuries, or even the Church of St. Nicholas with its linear portal and the frescoes of the fifteenth century, and therefore the Church of San Francesco style Baroque both outside and inside. In the vast Piazza del Popolo stands the fourteenth century Palazzo Ducale in which lived the Acquaviva, now the city hall. In the Piazza del Duomo, the Bishop's Palace instead el'ottocentesco Theatre. The typical manifestations of the tradition of Atri occur on August 15 for the feast of the Assumption, with the parade of decorated farm wagons, selling local food and traditional songs from Abruzzo, and the day of the Immaculate Conception, December 8, when dawn in the village in procession light bundles of reeds called "faugni" in honor of Our Lady. The city is also known for producing excellent cheese and delicious sausages. Now let's enjoy the magnificent view over the hills on one side to no end, on the other hand, huge and shiny, and stretches of the Adriatic.

Are now aiming inward to the wide valley of Vomano, while the background appears in all its grandeur and majesty of the Gran Sasso. In a short time to a small town situated on the hill to the right of the river is Morro d'Oro. Its ancient origin is revealed in the magnificent works of great historical and artistic value that the time has generously wanted to keep.At the center of town is the Church of San Salvatore, which was renovated in 1331. Its walls hold a stone altar, a painting of the Assumption and a terracotta Madonna in all of 1500. The wooden statue of St. Bernardino of Siena, instead of the next century. Just outside the town, the apex of a hill, the church and the convent of Sant'Antonio Abate, with its portal dating from the fourteenth century. We move away from the country so that even a few miles to the river Vomano, we see the Church of Santa Maria di Propezzano. It was built 1200 years ago (715 AD) after that year a group of German pilgrims were returning from Rome, according to legend, an apparition of the Virgin Mary. It was then rebuilt in the fourteenth century, with a nice porch that encloses a Gothic doorway surrounded by paintings. Another good portal on the left side of the Church, called "Holy Door" opens May 10 and only on Ascension Day, when a "pass" under the portal can provide the indulgence. At the Church there is a small cloister and a lovely well, what remains of a rich and powerful Abbey of the Middle Ages.

Back on track to the last stop and let behind this medieval village perched on the hill. We walk again in the valley until you meet Vomano Notasulga, picturesque village built around a castle, of which there are now few remains. Of this village to visit is the Abbey of San Clemente al Vomano, located in the nearby village of Guardia Vomano. The Romanesque structure dating from the ninth century, was restored in 1108 and again in this century. Beautiful effect of the portal with stone lintels, jambs el'archivolto decorations. Inside, stands the equally ancient and precious "tabernacle" (tabernacle) by the sculptor Robert Roger, finely decorated with stucco. But before leaving for the last village on this route, well worth a visit even two churches: St. Peter and St. Andrew with eighteenth century paintings, and the church of San Rocco with Madonna in terracotta. In May, the festival takes place in Notasulga of fresh beans that are eaten with bread and olive oil. In all the other days of the year, typical of this charming country are different:the exquisite "scrippelle 'mbusse" and "tajarille and fasciule.
